PITCH BLACK EXPANDS REVIZE, ITS PRODUCTION-PROVEN AI AND MACHINE-LEARNING CAPABILITY ACROSS ITS GLOBAL STUDIOS

REVIZE, the production proven AI and machine learning capability that began development at Rising Sun Pictures in 2018, is now expanding across FOLKS, El Ranchito, and Square One, extending years of machine learning workflows and expertise across Pitch Black, while supporting continuous group-wide innovation.

BURBANK, CALIFORNIA – SEPTEMBER 9, 2026 – Pitch Black today announced that REVIZE, the proprietary AI and machine learning (ML) technology developed at Rising Sun Pictures (RSP) and proven in major productions including the Academy Award ®-nominated SINNERS, is expanding across its global studios.

The expansion gives teams at RSP, FOLKS, El Ranchito, and Square One access to REVIZE capabilities, workflows, and expertise, allowing the group to bring a broader range of solutions to complex creative and production challenges.

“When talking about AI and ML in visual effects, what matters most is what holds up in production, and REVIZE does,” said Sébastien Bergeron, CEO of Pitch Black. “REVIZE has years of experience behind it, developed by people who know that AI and ML need to earn their place in production. Expanding REVIZE’s capabilities across Pitch Black means more teams can benefit while helping shape what REVIZE becomes next.”

Longtime RSP leader, Troy Tobin has played a central role in REVIZE since its early days and now serves as Head of REVIZE (Research and Innovation) for Pitch Black. In this role, he will oversee REVIZE’s global expansion, bringing cross-studio teams into its ongoing development.

Mickey 17 and Sinners: REVIZE in Production

REVIZE originated at RSP in 2018, when the studio began investigating whether emerging ML methods could meet demanding face-replacement requirements for feature films. RSP subsequently invested in a proprietary system integrated with the VFX pipeline developed around the realities of production, including changing lighting and difficult camera angles.

As production challenges grew, REVIZE expanded with them, to include body replacement, cosmetic adjustments, and performance refinement, all built to deliver results across every frame. Years of production experience have honed both the technology and the workflows around it.

“REVIZE is not just the technology,” said Troy Tobin. “It is the workflows around it, its integration with artists and supervisors, and the problem-solving the team has done over years of production. We don’t want to hit every problem with the AI and machine learning hammer. But having it as one tool in the bag gives us more options to solve difficult problems and, in some cases, make work possible that could not have been approached in the same way before.”

From Elvis and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to more recent projects, Sinners and Mickey 17, REVIZE has now been used on more than 30 films, growing from tens of shots on early productions to hundreds of applications on individual projects.

Expanding access and innovation across Pitch Black

By expanding REVIZE across Pitch Black, the group intends to make proven capabilities and production knowledge available beyond the studio where they were originally developed.

Under Tobin’s leadership, a production challenge identified anywhere across the group may draw on artists, supervisors, researchers and developers from RSP, FOLKS, El Ranchito, and Square One. The group then determines if an existing REVIZE capability applies, an established workflow can be adapted, or whether new research and development is needed. Alongside client-driven development, REVIZE also invests in forward-looking research to prepare emerging AI and ML techniques into production. As new capabilities are proven, they can be integrated into REVIZE and shared across all Pitch Black studios.
